THE SMART LIVING SERIES
Book 1: Breathe Smart: The Secret to Happiness, Health and Long Life ORDER NOW!!!
Breathing is fundamental to human existence. The human body can survive without food for days or even weeks. It can survive without water for two or three days. However, without oxygen, we die in minutes. The incongruity is that people spend a great part of their lives concerned with eating and drinking, yet, for the most part, pay very little attention to their breathing. By learning breathing exercises and practicing them whenever there is an opportunity, your body is infused with more oxygen and therefore more vital energy. You begin to feel better. As you feel better you start to breathe more easily and fully, which in turn brings in even more oxygen and energy. It is a positive upward spiral created simply by breathing consciously. Your body wants to breathe more, all you have to do is let it. The exercises in this book are based on Chinese Qigong and Tai Chi breathing exercises.

Book 2: Eat Smart: The Anti-Diet for Happiness, Health and Long Life
Everyone has different nutrition requirements. In addition, people have varying food preferences. This book does not try to prescribe a diet to be followed. Instead it seeks to explore and define some basic, common-sense ideas about eating that too many people ignore much to their detriment. It discusses the problem with diet fads in today’s culture and the growing epidemic of obesity. It outlines the benefits of variety, moderation and balance as well as proper meal management. The exercises are simple, easy and bring a fuller awareness to the foods we eat and the choices we make about eating.

Book 3: Move Smart: Coordinating Mind and Body for Happiness, Health and Long Life
The human body was designed to be used in physically demanding ways. But modern life has changed that. We live in a sedentary society in which the body's natural need for and impulse toward movement is suppressed. Too often the mind is carried away in thought or with emotions and the body is left to fend for itself. For many, as life in general gets faster and faster, their own lives slow down, the tempo decreases, inertia takes over, and doing things requiring even minor physical exertion gets harder and harder. I call this phenomenon “Laze” and it is brought about to a significant degree by the technological revolution of the 20th century, in which new labor-saving devices were invented almost daily. The laze factor has come about because the easier we make it to do things, the more difficult it is to generate the motivation of energy to do what actually needs to be done. We enter a downward spiral. In response to this deterioration, to this laze factor, it is imperative that the parts of the body be kept moving through activity built into our daily lives and/or carefully selected exercises. The exercises recommended in this book are based on simple movements to raise the metabolism and keep the body healthy.

Book 4: Relax Smart: Stress Management for Happiness, Health and Long Life
Too many of us live at a frenetic pace. We rush from here to there always trying to catch up. We arrive somewhere just in time to leave. The stresses and tensions pile up. We recognize we are rushing through life but do not have the skills to do anything about it. However, if we spend all of our time trying to catch up with our life, we miss the important things. By making life faster we do not make it better, we just get to the end quicker. Tomorrow will arrive soon enough. Until it does, we need to learn to be content to live the fullness of today. By slowing down and quieting the mental noise that is with us every waking hour of the day, we become more in tune with our life as we live it as part of the natural world. This book discusses various meditative techniques and how to adapt them so that they are more accessible. They are based on the peace inducing practices found in Shanti Yoga and Zen meditation.

Awareness of the inner self and familiarity with the concept of balance leads to developing a mental attitude which is in harmony with the world around. When we can exist in harmony, we can learn the true meaning of peace.
